The Department of Special Collections is delighted to be participating in the forthcoming Mediaeval Weekend which is taking place from 18-19 February 2012. This is a weekend celebrating Mediaeval culture, with particular focus on music and St Andrews. Lectures, performances and workshops will be given by internationally recognised experts. In addition there is a rare chance to see close up a small selection of medieval manuscripts from the University’s collections.

A page from an illuminated Psalter from the mid-15th century (St Andrews copy at msBX2033.A00).

These have been chosen with music in mind and include an illuminated Psalter from 1450 (above), an illuminated Book of Hours, and a mid-14th century Gradual or choir song book, as well as fragments of manuscript containing mediaeval music found within printed book bindings. These items will be on show in the Conference Room of the Younger Hall, North Street, from 11am to 12 noon on Saturday.
