Bursary success!
We resume our posts with good news! We are delighted to announce that Kirsty Lee has been awarded the prestigious Patrick Cadell Bursary. Kirsty is our Archives Assistant who is building a portfolio for the care of born-digital and other non paper-based media within our archival collections. She is currently working towards an MLitt in Archives and Records Management through the Centre for Archive and Information Studies at the University of Dundee. The bursary will be used to pay for the final module (Metadata and Information Taxonomies) in Kirsty’s portfolio before she embarks on her dissertation in the Autumn.
Kirsty used to work as Redevelopment Project Officer in the Main Library before transferring to Special Collections last year. She was a valued volunteer who used to work long hours so that she could have an afternoon a week with Special Collections once she embarked on her studies. Amongst many other tasks, she helped us to move materials into our temporary home at the North Haugh. Kirsty’s background is in Business Administration and Creative Writing. She is currently working on the upgrading of our website and on establishing the scope of our non-paper based archival holdings within Special Collections. Rachel Hart is her mentor for the Dundee course.
The Cadell Bursary was established by the Scottish Council on Archives in memory of Patrick Cadell. As the former Keeper of the Records of Scotland, and in his capacity as a chair and trustee of numerous heritage, archives and records organisations, Patrick Cadell CBE made valuable and lasting contributions to archives in Scotland and abroad. In addition to acting as an influential advocate for archives in the Council of Europe, Mr Cadell also led the launch of the Scottish Archive Network – or SCAN project – with a national online catalogue and digital images of the early Scottish wills. This formed one of the foundations of the scotlandspeople website.
The SCA funds the bursary in memory of Mr Cadell’s extensive contributions to Scottish Archives. The bursary is aimed at providing an annual CPD opportunity for an archivist or records manager working in a Scottish archive or records management unit. We are thrilled that this year’s bursar comes from St Andrews – well done Kirsty!
