December 17 – St Andrews coastline, 1767
John Oliphant drew a series of views of St Andrews and its notable buildings in 1767. One of his drawings was this view of the City of St Andrews taken from the North West coast. [ID: ms38800]
The exciting thing about this is the two golfers on the links. It is one of the earliest portrayals of golfers on the course. The only earlier one I know of is the 1740 painting in The R&A. Truly historic sketch by Oliphant. Thanks for posting
